At the entrance to the Australia Hotel, Castlereagh Street, Sydney. The bronze statue in the photo - was one of a pair that created a 'parking zone' for arriving and departing guests. It was still there in 1912, when it was damaged by a lorry and had to be repaired.

correction. The burial ground was not the cemetery of the Cathedral. It was just located next to it (and commonly called Cathedral Close, its official title was a very plain Sydney Burial Ground). The original cemetery boudnary is also under the middle of George Street (even in this early photo).

Even though it's surrounded by tall buildings now, it's still like a beacon in the city. A lot of people use it as a meeting place, a place to jump off from.
