Claire thanks for pointing me to this as I love M&D. If I remember rightly Mill Street was famed as the first purpose-built bus station in the UK. The piano fronted TD Leylands were long gone when I was at Maidstone, but even though they were not in service I remember seeing them on Jersey with JMT.

The building still exists: relocated to the Kent & East Sussex Railway at Tenterden as the 'Station Refreshment Rooms'.

I'm not convinced this is Mill Street, Maidstone. Looks more like Gillingham Bus Station to me.

This part of the bus station was actually situated at the junction of Palace Avenue and Lower Stone Street. It was still there when I was a boy. The waiting room in Mill Treet was a separate building.

Yes, this is Piccadilly Gardens bus station built by the municipal operator, Manchester Corporation Transport. This is the layout after the reconstruction and extension completed in 1935. The Metrolink tram platforms are now effectively located on this alignment.
