    I remember sometime about 1960 while out wandering around the prairie with some friends we found W.F. Cody carved in sandstone beside a Kansas creek in Ellsworth County. If I remember right there was a date carved there also. Assume it was late 1800's. About 20 years later when I was in the area I wondered if could find it again. But with so many vast acres of grass and creek beds nothing looked familiar at all.

    Charles Gilbert Gates, multimillionaire son of the legendary financier John W. ("Bet-a-Million") Gates, had gone on a hunting expedition near Cody, Wyoming, the home of Buffalo Bill Cody, in hopes of restoring his health and vigor. Soon after this photo was taken, Gates was in his private train car on a siding in Cody, celebrating his hunting prowess, when he was suddenly stricken and died. His body was returned to New York City for a funeral that was held on November 2, 1913. The Funeral: The irrepressibe Mr. Gates:
