I remember sometime about 1960 while out wandering around the prairie with some friends we found W.F. Cody carved in sandstone beside a Kansas creek in Ellsworth County. If I remember right there was a date carved there also. Assume it was late 1800's. About 20 years later when I was in the area I wondered if could find it again. But with so many vast acres of grass and creek beds nothing looked familiar at all.

He remained active in photography in Cody from his arrival in 1904 until the early 1940's, and sold packages of photographs to tourists. The packages were primarily of the Cody Road. In his advertising he referred to himself as 'The Picture Man.'"
