The house I lived in (Harris Street, Pyrmont) had a backyard very similar to this. A bit tidier, but the old brick dunny was still there converted to a flush toilet on the sewer.

Darn it - flickr is not letting me scribble on some photos - the name on the boat is guessable as 'OCTOPUS' which is mentioned in this 1902 SMH article about ongoing cleansing of the Darling Harbour wharves - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14456489.
