this one's misdescribed and mis-tagged. It's "Ivy day", not "May Day"

Hi Wystan: thanks for your comment about the date of this image. After taking a closer look, it appears that the image you refer to in your note is from the same event as the above image and this one www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2163523756/ which is dated 6/7/11 in the image. The ivy plant under the columns and the woman in the white headband on the left in the back of the crowd appear in all three images. The above image seems to show the class of 1913 holding a banner, standing across from the graduating class of 1911, who are in caps and gowns.

This was the day of the joint commencement of Columbia University and Barnard College, June 7, 1911. Other Bain/LOC photos taken on that day:

Thank you Wystan and artolog for your comments on the dates of these images, which encouraged us to look at them more closely. The above image and the two noted in Wystan's comment are from the same Barnard Ivy day celebration which took place in June 1911. Take a look at the ivy plant under the columns and the woman in the white headband on the left who appears in the back of the crowd in all three images. The above image appears to show the class of 1913 holding a banner, standing across from the graduating class of 1911, who are in caps and gowns.
