A view from St. Mary’s Bridge, looking downriver, towards the railway viaduct. The industrial area on the right bank includes the spinning mill and the manure/vitriol works we discussed in an earlier visit. On the left,side you can see the top of the St. Lawrence Gate, the only surviving city gate.

The obelix is a reminder of the Battle of the Boyne, the most important skirmish that has taken place on Irish soil. Today there is a visitor centre and people of all political persuasions are welcome to celebrate or mourn the results of this bloody event.
