Advertisements for this sale can be found in The Queenslander and the Charters Towers newspaper, Northern Miner. "Varied charms, its eligible situation, the richness of its soil, etc. All this has been patent to the public for years, and the wonder has only been why so magnificent a property has been allowed to lie unimproved, while all around it has been built upon. Hermit Park reminds the Britisher of one of those noble parks in the West End of London." From some relation or other "Undated photo showing Clarke's Sale Rooms, Drogheda, Co. Louth (on the roof to the right). Eugene Clarke, draper (my great grandfather) started the business and had premises on Shop Street and West Street. One of his sons James Bernard Clarke ran the business until 1905 when he emigrated to New Jersey with his wife and 6 children." www.facebook.com/freeirishgenealogyebooks/timeline?filter... (it's the same pic, btw) It still says Clarke on the front as well as the roof so I guess it's pre-1905 (though it's J. A. as opposed to J. B.).
