The 7th Regiment, New York National Guard, later the 107th Infantry Regiment, marched off to war on September 11, 1917. The reviewing stand, at right, was at the Union League Club, then at E. 39th and 5th Ave., so this is looking north on 5th toward E. 40th St. The white building at center still stands and is part of the New York Public Library. Thanks for the date and details (a New York Times article from 9/12/1917 gave an evocative description though, alas, no picture). We'll add information to the description.

Actually Col. Willard C (for Clinton) Fisk. Commander of the 7th Regiment (note "7" badge on cap) of the 27th Division (New York National Guard) Fisk enlisted in the 7th as a private in 1874 and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1915. He was recalled in 1916 as a full colonel to command the 7th when the previous commander retired. He led the regiment (as the 107th Infantry) on the Western Front in 1918.
