  A few years after this photograph was taken, in January 1944, it was reported that a £5 million scheme would be created to revive the woollen industry in Wales The intention was to establish at least 16 new mills once the war was over.

  The traditional Welsh craft of basket weaving could have been an useful hobby to keep people occupied during blackouts. Richard Lewis of Carno demonstrated how he made these baskets, as well as wooden spoons and even potato-mashers by hand in January 1940.

  Although food rationing was introduced in January 1940, at the same time the women of Sarn and Cwm Baptist Churches in Montgomery managed to prepare enough cakes and buns for a respectable tea at the Recognition Service for their new pastor, the Reverend F. A. Baker.
