    Note: These election poster galleries were compiled in March 2011, before these Government Printing Office glass plate negatives of The Rocks were determined to be part of the Rocks Resumption photographic survey in November 2011.

    The name of the alley was Matthew Place. The lane led to Upper Fort Street. There is a drawing by Sydney Ure Smith titled 'Corner Matthew Place and Princes St. (demolished)' in 'Glimpses of Old Sydney' by Charles H. Bertie (Sydney : Art in Australia, 1928), plate 3. The lamp post and the lane bollard are not present in the drawing.

    This is good - a Will Daley poster which was already looking tatty by 7/8/1901. I was trying to think how long a paper poster might last in full sun in the winter. It was a Wednesday.
