I suspect the note is incorrect - the building noted is in fact the old, and now demolished, Waverley Market as the station is to the right.

It's not so bad elyziumfields, though the Baloral Hotel (think it would have been the "North British" back then) got a whole lot grander and more crenellated some time shortly after the picture was taken.
