John Ernest Williamson (1881-1966) entering the "photosphere", his own invention from which he filmed and photographed the deep sea.

He took his first pictures in 1913, while submerged in Chesapeake Bay. In 1914, he took the first underwater motion pictures, from an improved version of the photosphere, in the Bahamas.
