Is this an HDR photo?

absolutely not! this photo was taken in 1942. There was no photoshop back then. This photo is quite amazing considering the technology. That light coming from the left is a flash bulb. It has to be pretty bright to overpower the ambient daylight.

a great and wonderful photo. i take my hat off to all those men and women who fought for our freedom, and of which a lot paid for that freedom with their lives. i say thanks to those photographers who show us those sacrifices that the men and women of the allied forces made so that could have the life we do today.
