"Marjorie Lucas (née Hollinshed) (1905–1995) was a ballet dancer and dance teacher from Queensland, Australia. She was instrumental in the development of ballet in Queensland. Born in Brisbane, she spent her teen years in Melbourne where she receive some ballet training. Upon her return to Brisbane, she became an assistant to Margaret St. Ledger at her dance school. After St. Ledger's retirement, she took over the school.[1] At the time, most dance schools in Australia taught mixture of dances, including ballroom and theatrical. Anna Pavlova's Australian tours in 1926 and 1929 inspired teachers like Hollinshed to learn and train in classical ballet (then called operatic dancing).[2] In 1932, she retired from teaching and passed her studio on to her pupil Phyllis Danaher.[3][4] Other notable students of hers include Laurel Martyn.[1] She went on to publish two books about ballet in Australia." " Phyllis Danaher MBE, FRAD (1908-1991) Phyllis Danaher was a dancer, teacher of dance and choreographer. Born in Brisbane, she helped establish the Queensland branch of the newly formed Australasian Society of Operatic Dancing, an umbrella organisation for teachers of ballet. This was the genesis of Ballet Theatre Queensland (BTQ), which she went on to direct well into the 1980s. Miss Danaher was the first Queensland teacher to gain the Advanced Teacher Certificate from the Royal Academy of Dance. From 1957 to 1982, she was a children’s examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. Her contributions were recognised when she was made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Dance and a Member of the British Empire for service to dance in Queensland. Two of Miss Danaher’s more successful students were Principal Artists with the Australian Ballet, Garth Welch and Lucette Aldous. Arch Lauterer designed the set, Charlotte Trowbridge, the costumes. Edward Gordon Craig provided text for the narrated portions. The piece premiered on August 10, 1941, at the Bennington College Theatre in Bennington, Vermont.[1] Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch_and_the_Judy

I would like to note that the dancers in the photo are two female dancers. It is more likely that at that time the shortage of male dancers prompted the need for female dancers to take on male roles.
