Quite a long exposure by the looks of it. Another auction poster on the church gate. The church has a sort of C of I look about it, which might help narrowing the search down.

I've done a quick streetview of all the Blackall locations form the census and there's nothing like this. It seems to be a church attached to an ecclesiastical ruin of some sort - maybe an abbey or maybe just an older church.

National Library of Ireland on The Commons Is the auction poster on the arch legible if you stick the negative into a microfiche reader?

Hi, This is St. Mary's Church, Athenry, Co. Galway.

Interesting - Looks like west Galway or South west Mayo, probably Connemara. Could the poser be an American and the N is missing or erased?

If it is Mayo, I would also put it in south west Mayo with those stone walls and the mountains. It looks like it's a view facing south or south west with the Connemara hills in the distance.

You can see more of the mountains in this one, might help in identifying the location.

DannyM8 Like your creative thinking, but he's not posing in the other photo. Text on that one is much cleaner, and definitely says AMERICA. Co. MAYO.

National Library of Ireland on The Commons Are you SURE ???

Seems to be referred to as 'Lady Kenmare's Cottage' in the mid-1800s Ordnance Survey first edition 6" map, but 'Glena Cottage' is also there nearby. Then the name 'Lady Kenmare's Cottage' disappears in the Cassini version of the map, 'Glena Cottage' is switched from one building to the other, and the building formerly referred to as 'Glena Cottage' is then referred to as 'Visitor's Cottage'

Also from the blog is this sad story from 1889, which is probably too late for this particular photo (?) - "Tragedy struck the inhabitants of the cottage in 1889, when a Dr. Finerty rented the cottage from Lord Kenmare. Dr Finerty and his wife, who were married a year previous, had their first child born at Glena. They had a christening party and invited a large number of people to celebrate at the cottage by the lake. A number of young men who attended the party over indulged and left the party by row boat which overturned. Among the five young men drowned, were brothers Joseph and Daniel Riordan who worked in the post office in Killarney."
