    Originally the railings near "DEE-WHY" were open (both ends of the vessel). See www.flickr.com/photos/63385174@N06/5824335615/in/photolis... Within a year (1929) white painted canvas had to be placed behind these railing due to wash reaching passengers in that area. Around 1930 these railings were replaced by steel plates as wash still reached the passengers. Same for the identical SS Curl Curl.
