Sorry to be picky, but this is Otho Street (Gwydir Hwy) looking SE from Byron Street. See the location of Grove House with its distinctive parapet. Google Maps Street View - maps.google.com/maps?q=Byron+Street,+Inverell,+New+South+...

beachcomber australia Yes it does indeed seem to be Otho Street (Gwydir Hwy) taken from Byron St - Thanks! I'll update the caption. -AG

It seems to me entirely bogus that Yetman and Bonshaw are in opposite directions from Inverell, because they are both north of Inverell. The photo must be taken looking SE down Otho street, from the T junction with Byron Street. The photo is looking in the direction towards Glen Innes. Actually the road on the left goes to Bonshaw and the road to Yetman branches off the Gwydir Highway about 1 km to the right. Some of those cars are mid-30's or later so it can't be 1920's.

Mich Check out the discussion on the date of the photo here: archivesoutside.records.nsw.gov.au/can-you-date-inverell/ 1936-37 seems to be the front runner at the moment!
