Passenger ship Stratheden being turned in the Brisbane River by the tugboat Carlock

i sailed on her as an 11 year old boy in 1963 which was her second to last voyage under P and O.My parents were 10 pound poms on route to Aussie. We sailed for 6 weeks through the Suez Canal stopping at Port Said,Aden,Ceylon and then around Aussie to Sydney.I remember even today the rough passage through the Bay of Biscay without stabilizers,we has crockery flying,my cousin fell off his top bunk and there was a smell of sick from the lower decks.I always remember the chief bosun was a strapping man named affectionately as Tiny.My parents forced me to confront Tiny because i was a mischievous young chap that untied all the flags between the masts.I still have very fond memories of the Stratheden even after 48 years.

I came to England with my Grandparents named Chick in May 1939. I still have various memories of the journey through the Suez Canal and between Italy and Sicily to Marseilles and onward to Tilbury. Hmmm, Us Britishers returning before the impending war was declared.
