    It's incredible what they achieved without accurate tooling. I've seen early drills and tools at The National Railway Museum and by crikey it's amazing they worked at all! These men were truly pioneers of the modern railway.

    Yes, once the Victorians worked out how to build engines, they went on a huge building binge. Thank you for the information and the image. If you are ever in Sacramento, California, there's an outstanding railroad museum there.
