Parked cars and gathered crowds at an unidentified location - possibly Point Pleasant Park

  • Bill Jarvis said:
The cars appear to have 1931 Nova Scotia license plates.
  • Lynn Currie said:
Looks like entrance to lower Pt Pleasant Park. Circa 1930s as cars look more advanced than model T.
  • Halifax Municipal Archives said:
Good eyes Bill Jarvis ! Thanks - we'll add that date.
  • Halifax Municipal Archives said:
WE'll add that as a possible location. Thanks Lynn Currie

Goodbye to Nova Scotia arch

1951 - Royal visit of then Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth II) and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
  • Halifax Municipal Archives said:
Aurora Feletti: Based on the other photos in the same collection, this is not likely a picture of the Royal visit in 1951, since the others are all from the 1910s and 1920s, if not earlier. But good thought!

Soldiers are marching to board a troopship, likely the OLYMPIC, hence the message on the arch. There was always a big turnout of citizens, families & friends, esp if it was a local regiment.
  • Halifax Municipal Archives said:
James White Thanks again, James. This does seem likely given the photographs of what was likely the Olympic that are also a part of this album (CR16-115 and CR16-16b).
