halifax explosion???

Could this be St peters' catholic church in dartmouth...?

This is a tough one to identify. Snow coverage indicates it could have been Dec. 6, 1917. The snowstorm came later the day of the Halifax Explosion. That is definitely a church spire, but the topography around St. Peter's Catholic Church is not as flat as the field shown here.

Looks like the back of houses, similar to what you could see looking from Dockyard, (over Barrington and) up toward Brunswick St. There was a time that you could see kids and dogs playing in the backyards, from the Dockyard windows (just north from where Casino NS now stands).

That's interesting Lynn Currie , but it is a pretty steep incline from Barrington to Brunswick, which doesn't reflect where the church spire is in the background of this image. Thanks, though!

This must have been taken sometime in 1916. Olympic was chartered by the Canadian government in that year for troop transport and was still painted in wartime grey with blackened funnels (as shown). In 1917, and until the end of the war, she was painted in dazzle camouflage.
