The New Ross Boat Club had their 21st annual regatta in July of 1898 according to the Freeman's Journal newspaper.

Megazoom - the inscription on the jug on the bottom step says 'Challenge Cup' which is odd because it's the only trophy which isn't a cup. Below that there's a year. It's not clear but I'd hazard a guess at 1893 or 1895.

There's a photo of what I assume is Waterford Boat Club (despite the title) given their jackets here with what looks like the same Challenge Cup at the bottom, though turned the other way.

It was deciphered as the Harbour Commissioners Challenge Cup, when it appeared before:

This appears to be CGS EARL GREY, Northumberland Strait icebreaker with accommodations for the Governor-General. This ship had a long history in Russian service and was the 3rd vessel to be commissioned into the fledgling Royal Canadian Navy, after HMCS NIOBE and HMCS RAINBOW.

James White Hello James - you appear to be correct! Thanks for spotting this one. The Duke of Connaught, Governor General to Canada, arrived on the D.G.S. The boat house is just above the Francis Scott Key bridge in Georgetown. I think the main building you see is actually the Washington Canoe Club now, but it is very close to the Potomac Boat Club (now a private rowing facility).
