Oh I love the outfits the little girls are wearing in the bottom right of this photo!

All human life is there! You have the young girls wearing their lovely outfits and the young boy in rags and bare feet, the poor, the well off, the young and old and all crowded into a space most of us have occupied at some stage. I like the sign on the right "Maypole tea is best!" - never heard of it but I'll take their word. Super shot NLI thank you for sharing this.

Ulysses mostly ignores Earl street, although Nelson's pillar and the GPO are directly behind the photographer. Thom's 1904 covers this patch on page 1481. Meagher's, where Bloom lent Hynes three shillings, and Downes' cakeshop which Maria visits in the story "Clay" are somewhere on the near right.

Great image, there is so much to look at in this, especially the Cliff Richard styled bloke to the left. That looks like one of those silver cross prams to the left also!

Minus the fashion, I think this photo could pass for being taken today.

The craftmanship of the lamp post and the flowerpots on the roof of the building in the centre of the left side of the street are nice features.

A similar style of electric lamp was introduced to Sydney, Australia streets from 1912, which might be of interest - www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/history/sydneystreets/Minding... Interesting in this photo that the old gas lamps are still there, which implies that electric street lighting had just been introduced.
