    This is not the battleship BB 47, which was never completed and never entered service. More likely this is the troop transport USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (ID 3018), the former German passenger liner of that name seized by the US in April 1917. Commissioned by the US Navy in September 1917, she carried President Wilson to France in December 1918 for the Versailles conference. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_George_Washington

    This is George Fried, captain of the S.S. Roosevelt. The negative has the date January 29, 1926. On Sunday, January 24, 1926, in stormy weather, the British steamship Antinoe sent out as SOS picked up by the United States SS Roosevelt. Roosevelt proceeded to the spot given in the SOS, but found the Antinoe was 100 miles off course. Using a radio compass, the Roosevelt was able to proceed to the correct spot of the Antinoe. Captain Fried kept his ship by for more than three days and succeeded in rescuing more than 20 members of the Antinoe crew, although two crew members of the S.S.
