Scenes like this are so familiar from films - where they're pretending - this is the real deal! Wonderful!

put this photo in black and white and you will have the classical romantic look of the 1940s,,,,,while in color it reveals how the clothes of those boys were poor, unclean and not in good order,,,,,,, thank you for this realistic view ,,,,,it is sort of curing for my obsession with black and white photos!

WOW what a picture.

Yes... the paperclip belt was just something fun we did back then!!! Can't think of anything similar except maybe those people who walk around with chains hanging from their belts. Children didn't usually have their own money so buying a wearable 'fad' would not be possible. We made our own :)

There's something so surreal about this picture, the war-bonds poster on the right and the children looking at the globe on the left. It's almost ominous.

"Daddy is somewhere in this vicinity, on a ship sailing east."

Wonder if this is a one room school house. There seems to be a broad cross-section of ages of the children.
