Coogee Public School Pavilion Classroom

    PAVILION CLASS-ROOMS.

What appears to be a solution at last of the old problem of adequate ventilation of class-rooms in the summer months is at present being tried In the schools at Coogee and Petersham. The solution is a room open on three sides, which can be screened, if necessary by canvas blinds, Everybody doubtless retains an unpleasant memory of the hours spent in inky school-rooms, amid an over-carbonised atmosphere, with half-a dozen blue-bottles buzzing madly against the window panes, and the pen slithering in one's perspiring fingers, and the idea of the children in future sitting in a veritable bath of fresh air is distinctly pleasing. How far, however, the children's attention is likely to be distracted under the new conditions remains to he seen. The new class-rooms can be built at low cost, and though those now in use were merely erected temporarily, they seem likely to prove the forerunners of a minor evolution in school architecture.

beachcomber australia Great newspaper fragment! I've seen photos of children being educated outside even in winter as a response to perceived unhealthy stuffy classrooms -
    - no doubt the pedagogues also considered it character building!

I think the girl in front is knife sharpening, others are polishing silver, waxing their desk tops, and cleaning window panes and sills.
