A number of papers reported (obviously erroneously) in February, 1916 that she had been executed as a spy: "ACTRESS SHOT AS A SPY CLEVELAND, Feb. 15—Sari Petrass, Hungarian actress, has been executed as a spy. She was noted over the continent as a beauty. She is a native of Hungary, but was for many years one of the favorites of the London stage. She is 28 and Felix is 31.
