Band Rotunda, Fairy Fountain, and MELSA The band rotunda is an early example of prefabrication having been built in Glasgow and shipped out in 1890. Originally it incorporated the 'Fairy Fountain', an ornate drinking fountain, and was bequeathed to the people of Maryborough by Janet Melville whose brother, Andrew Melville, had been the town's mayor in 1863. The Fairy Fountain was removed from the rotunda so that the floor could be raised to provide audiences with better views of the performer. Near the rotunda are some 13-cm gauge railway tracks. The local Model Engineers and Live Steamers Association have been bringing their trains to these tracks on the last Sunday of each month since 1976. Queens Park was established in 1860 and many of its beautiful huge trees were planted before 1900. Features of the Park are the fernery, waterfall, and lily pond, lace-trimmed band rotunda built in 1890 and listed by the National Trust, and the 13-centimeter Gauge Model Railway built by the Model Engineers and Live Steamers Association. On the last Sunday each month, the Association meets in Queens Park to relive the steam age in the chug of engines, the glow of brass and coal fires, and the cheery sound of the whistle. Also to be heard and seen are Maryborough's Brass Bands playing in the rotunda. The Park is a cool retreat with a waterfall, flowers, shrubs, and trees. An educated guess - Peat Island c.1911, when a psychiatric hospital was established? - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peat_Island . That has to be the same building ( www.flickr.com/photos/state-records-nsw/4841767519/ ). But I was wrong; it used to be on the NW tip of Peat Island, where the large round water tower now is. This makes sense of the lack of window shutters on the east windows. It looks like the same characters are in both photos, particularly the gent with pale trousers and a cane (Fred Astaire?!).

Looks to be a slight resemblance!
