    That has to be the same building ( www.flickr.com/photos/state-records-nsw/4841767519/ ). But I was wrong; it used to be on the NW tip of Peat Island, where the large round water tower now is. This makes sense of the lack of window shutters on the east windows. It looks like the same characters are in both photos, particularly the gent with pale trousers and a cane (Fred Astaire?!).

    The wagon with ads for a cinema/theatre on Gt. Brunswick St. is presumably for the Queen's Theatre on what is now Pearse St,, later temporary home of the Abbey.
