This photo is shot to the West (roughly). Lake is Wesley Lake (I added tag). Both Asbury Park (North side the lake, right of photo) and Ocean Grove (South side of the lake, left of photo) are shown here.

The woman on the RIGHT* can't be Susan B. Anthony--she might be another Miss Anthony, but Susan B. died in 1906. *fixed on advice of Wystan.

That's Anna Shaw on the left . . . .

Whoops, yes, of course. I'm never good at left-right (don't give me driving directions or ballroom dance classes, it's hopeless). Should have double-checked myself. The woman on the left certainly is Anna Shaw! Now who's on the right?

Anna Howard Shaw (February 14, 1847 – July 2, 1919) was a leader of the women's suffrage movement in the United States. She was also a physician and the first ordained female Methodist minister in the United States. Kennedy honored her by awarding her the first “Citation of Merit for Distinguished Service.” She often found herself in the middle of historic events. Is this the same woman as in hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/cph.3b10975 ? If so, she is Margaret Vale (Mrs. George Howe), niece of Pres. Wilson.

Made a recycled-cardboard pendant of this image at THATCamp SoCal today (1/12/11):

Mrs. Margaret Howe holds the emblem representing the Oregon delegation at a women's suffrage parade in 1913 in Washington DC. At this march/ parade, the women held banners representing states that already had women's suffrage. Oregon women obtained the right to vote in 1912.
