    @Shikari - they're basalt columns, formed when the liquid basalt rock hardened under unusual conditions. If you ever get the chance to go, you should - the Giant's Causeway (search on the internet for it) is a truly unmissable sight.....

    We have columnar basalt in our area too, but I'd never seen it like its shown here (especially in the previous picture). Ours is located on the west side of the Columbia river near where highway 26 and I90 meet (Washington State, US).

    This is a gorgeous and thrilling set of photographs, but to clarify the title of this one: these are actually called The Cliffs Of Moher, in County Clare.

    LOC -- the original caption on the photo reads "Clare" -- not "Claire." So why even mention the incorrect spelling in the LOC title?
