Nice to see this great photo. I hope you can post photos of other city bookshops. Tyrrells in George St at both locations would be great; I recall Bill Tyrrell donating his shop records to the Mitchell some years ago.

Museums of History NSW - State Archives Collection it is strange revisiting this photo 26 months later. The Digital ID link above goes to the wrong photo, but I think it may be linked somehow to this one. More later ... The house in the foreground is the historic 'Clovelly' (built 1834, demolished 1903), at the time the residence of Sir John Robertson. beachcomber australia Fixed the link to Photo Investigator, thanks for picking that up. Those SLNSW photos are great to compare this one with...and to see the sad state 'Clovelly' was in before demolition. Will pass this info along, we can at least place a pre-1903 date. AB

The photo this one is next to in the 4481 Series and mistakenly connected with as being on the "north side" is probably part of a panorama. See notes and comments here - Could it be that this photo too is also the centre part of a three-frame panorama? Watson's Bay and The Gap seem to have been a favourite spot for photographers, and there are several photos which show the missing two thirds of the view. For example (only) - Opinions anyone? I think the date is nearer c.1885 than 1903, from the style of the photo.
