When Lieutenant Akemoto came to Newcastle to inspect naval guns being built by Armstrong, he stayed with James Donnelly and his family. That's Mae Ella Nolan (1886-1973) of San Francisco, whose husband John Ignatius Nolan (1874-1822) was a labor leader and Congressman. After he died, she took over his seat in Congress. The two men labelled "Miss" represented Mississippi in Congress. Harrison served in both houses, Vardaman was a senator.
