Dear Librarians: The photo was dated twice on the negative!!! This is visible in the print you published here !!!!! first time dated: 11 / 8 / 24 ( = Aug. 11th 1924 ) probably the date of its making or its acquirement by Bain News Service. second time dated 3 / 11 / 24 ( = Nov 8th 1924 ) , meaning shortly before the change of the government ( shortly before the end of chancellor Seipel's 1st government ) with the remark "To News" this image was given to be prepared as press photo in a news paper

Thanks Uwe Kulick for pointing out the dates on the negative. In the US we've traditionally written the dates as: month / day / year. That would make the dates November, 8, 1924 and March 11, 1924. We'll add this information to the catalog record.

Like the earlier Bain photo of Rikitaro Fujisawa, this photo is cropped from a larger group shot of Williams College lecturers that ran in the Washington D.C. Evening Star on August 15, 1922, with the caption: "Envoys of five foreign nations who will lecture at the "Congress of Thinkers'" being held at Williams College. Left to right: Lionel Curtis, secretary of Irish peace conference; Raymond Recouly, editor of Figaro and Le Temps, Paris; Philip H. Kerr, confidential adviser to Lloyd George; Dr. H. A. Garfield, president of Williams; Manoel dle Olivera, Brazilian envoy; Dr. Rikitaro Fjuisawa, Japanese professor, and Dr. Joseph Redlich, Austrian jurist. "
