en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_McDonald_(athlete) "Patrick Joseph "Pat" McDonald (born McDonnell; July 29, 1878 – May 16, 1954) was born in Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland. He competed as an American track and field athlete in a variety of the throwing events. He was a member of the Irish American Athletic Club and of the New York City Police Department, working as a traffic cop in Times Square for many years." Someone reckons this is "setting the world shot-put record at Celtic Park in Sunnyside, October 22, 1911." See books.google.com/books?id=6COtAgAAQBAJ&pg=PA74&lp... reports on the annual senior track and field championships of the Metropolitan Association at Pershing Field, New Jersey. At this event, McDonald competed on behalf of the New York Athletic Club, which used the logo of Mercury's winged foot. That appears to be the logo on his shirt here. He won the shot-put and throwing the 56lb weight.

Michael A. Devanney (see nearby photo) won the mile at the same event. Pete White (also in a nearby photo) won the 100 yard dash.

The backdrop of the Devanney photo is consistent with a photo of Pershing Field. See
