trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/253066347 - Sydney Punch, 17th November, 1883... At Coogee. I stood on the rocks and I watched the waves rolling With mighty force in from the far reaching deep, And how my heart heaved as I saw them come bowling And dashing in spray clouds above each wild reef. See! now they're receding, repulsed for a moment, But only to gather fresh strength in their course, And ere I can fancy them gone, comes a torrent Of billows which bears all along with its force. Now I look at the wall of blue waves which come tearing Like cavalry horses in martial array, Their white crests, like plumes, all so gallantly wearing, Ere breaking their forms in light showers of salt spray. Oh ! grand are the anthems of music they're ringing, And wondrous the changes of feeling they wake, No minstrel that e'er charmed the ear with his singing, Sent such thrills thro' our hearts as those they can make. And I've seen them too when far out on the ocean, Their home, where nought else can their power contest, When even the Heavens seemed to join in their motion And flung me from one to the other's wild breast. Roll on, mighty monarchs ! o'er your wild dominions, Intruders can. but at your pleasure, remain Insulted, you have but to shake your wild pinions, And alone! you continue to rule over the main.

Bishop Island was an island near the mouth of the Brisbane River in Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. History Bishop Island was formed by dredging at the mouth of the Brisbane River between 1909 and 1912. It was named Bishop Island in 1912 after Allan Fitzroy Gordon Bishop, the captain of the dredge Hercules involved in creating the island. Many ships were dumped on the island. The Australian United Steam Navigation Company's SS Bingera was dumped in 1926; it was built to provide the mail service between Brisbane, Gladstone, and Townsville and became redundant when the railway line to Townsville was completed. The Queensland Government's steam yacht Lucinda was dumped on 28 January 1937. The island became a popular recreation spot visited by private boats and tourist operators. In 1976, the island was used by the Port of Brisbane. In 2004, the port expanded through land reclamation in Moreton Bay, resulting in Bishop Island ceasing to exist as an island, becoming part of the mainland port.
