Old Stone House – Then and Now (100+ years later)
The placement of the stairs was changed (c.1935) ... but little else.
The top floor, with a brick exterior, was added in 1767, along with a wing to the rear of the house.

How did they do color in 1860? This is amazing. I bet the almost flat roof leaked like a lot of churches still do. Where are these statues now?? I really like the way the grounds used to look. It had dignity.

This is one of the few times that Bain copyrighted one of his images. I think he did it to the photos that he thought had the most commercial potential and would be republished. This tranche of photos are from around 1915. Images published or distributed in the United States between 1923 and 1977 without a copyright notice are in the public domain.
