There is another possible identification, particularly given the date. A Robert G Dibble was the American single sculls champion in 1914 and was doing well in the Diamond Sculls at Henley on this date. He was actually Canadian, and rowed for the Don Rowing Club of Toronto. He was beaten in the semi-finals by an Italian. See, for example, The Washington times. (Washington [D.C.]), 03 July 1914, page 2, lower right corner. chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn84026749/1914-07-03/ed-... www.donrowingclub.com/oldsite-dan/culture_history.php suggests that Dibble remained active in the club through ups and downs for many years. But I haven't found a picture yet.
