  Well that is a confusing caption, in line with the long historic tradition of confusing Mt Townsend at Mt Koszciusko I guess. That photo would appear to be in fact Mt Townsend.

  This is a view of Mount Townsend, taken from Seaman's Hut

  Looking at the bindings, I would suspect that the date of the photograph was around 1935 - 1940.

  Photo dates from post WW2 to early 50s and shows one of the eight Studebaker M29C Weasels that the NSW Tourist Bureau had. The M29C Water Weasel had buoyancy cells in the bow and stern as well as twin rudders. The amphibious parts were discarded during tourism operations.
