She looks like his mother, doesn't she ?

Who was he and who was she - mother, aunt? And where was this photo taken? There are many photographs in the State Library of Queensland's collection that have unidentified people, places and times. Can you help to solve some of the mysteries? We invite you to add comments to this photograph if you know who might be in the photograph or where it is.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/51979177@N02] That would be great, thanks. It does appear from all of that information that is is most likely his mother. We'll add your information to our record in the catalogue. Thanks so much!

According to Wikitree.com/wiki The man could be Ernest Lindsay Hardgrave born in 1903 in, Queensland Australia, died in 1978. Son of Ernest Winsley Stephen Hardgrave and Ellen (Harvey) Hardgrave. If the woman in the photo is his mother it could be Ellen (Harvey) Hardgrave.

I don't think she's his wife. I think she is his mother. It doesn't say wife on the photo anywhere and he is very much younger than her. Also they are posed distant from one another, not like a husband/wife pose. Also, if you look closely you can see they have similar facial features.

Seriously, that must be his mother.

    Well, I ain't sayin' he's a gold digger....

It is an eerie photo. Do you think she is wearing black because her husband has just died?
  • Nathan Adams said:
Budderflyman's suspicions were correct. Her husband had died. Had been murdered in fact! By this guy (her son-in-law): www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2448662531/ Full story here: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9500E6D6103AE633A...
