    Typical "Tyneside Flats", each with an open staircase at the rear for the upper flat. Two back gates for the separate back yards, each with a coalhouse and water closet. Modernised versions still exist as far south as Washington and Stanley in County Durham.

    I look at this photo and it reminds me of OUR TOWN where the actors sit there portraying the dead-- here is seems like the deceased are sitting there watching life go by. "Hey Bert, isn't that Ralph Jones driving this way? I always thought he drove Plymouths."
