Fatfield from Penshaw Station

This isn't Fatfield, its Gladstone Terrace, New Penshaw which was next to Penshaw train station. This view is looking towards the river in the direction of Mount Pleasant. I was born while my family lived in Gladstone Terrace in 1967 :) Love all the old photos by the way

View of Washington from Penshaw Hill

Cox green station looks rather rural. I used to think you could see the conical F pit spoil heap (And Wardley too)from all over North Durham. Springwell pit heap stands out on the Horizon. Messrs. Pattinson, Newall & Bell still have a lot to answer for.

The area changed so much from this scene!

I've a question; I've tried many times to see images of the asbestos spoil heap that blighted Washington back in the day. Do you have any photos of it that could be shown here?

Hi Paul, Thanks for your interest. I'm planning to add two views of Newall's later on today so keep an eye out for them.

Interesting that furnace ventilation still seems to be being used (short chimney to the left). 1965 is very late for that.
