Comment added on behalf of Bill Shute (Who does not use Yahoo, Flickr or Facebook!) As a kid I spent many lazy days surfing on this beach. This photo I feel is pre 1950's. Immediately over the concrete shelter shed and about a mile distant was the Maroubra Speedway which was closed in the 1930's due to several fatal mishaps during racing. In the 1960's-70's that became a large Housing Commission area, houses and flats. The barely visible concrete section slightly to the left of, and towards the water from the shelter shed is the storm water outlet for water collected for miles distant. Nearly high enough for an adult to walk in and about as wide from memory. Trams terminated near the building in the left foreground, which could be the surf clubhouse. The whole of the hill to the left is now fully developed with housing. Sincerely, Bill
