  The Heavy Cruiser looks like either HMAS Canberra or HMAS Australia.

  The Kalang and Koondooloo were made obsolete as car ferries, following the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932, and eventually converted to Harbour Showboats, immediately popular with the public , Kalang later renamed the 'Sydney Queen'.   The ship was owned by Lundegaard & Sonner, Fatsund and was probably under charter to UK operators. Built 1929, 4251 grt. Sold 1932 to B J Sutherland and renamed Fife. In 1936 sold became Leith Hill, then to Kulukundis (London Greeks) as Mount Aetna and served through WW II under this name. Scrapped Osaka 1959 as John Livanos' Nevada.

Built 1927 for the German-Australian line - good details here - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/3914373 24/3/1928 - leaves No.8 wharf Walsh Bay for Antwerp - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16451490 1929 - Wrecked on Minisoy Island off India - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/53436750 (illustrated)

  This looks like No.8 wharf Walsh Bay to me - the slight overhang of the upper floor seen at left. The Blue Peter is flying (see note), so I think this is likely to be 24 March 1928, unless there was a later visit.

  beachcomber australia Great stuff! Thanks Beachcomber :) This link (I think) shows images of HOCHST/ HOECHST burning, taken from onboard LAUTERFELS which was also stranded on the reef.
