    I first learned about this initiation ritual from a coworker. So cool! Didn't know they had certificates. I wish I had one of these for my Grandfather. Did they do this initiation back in 1938 or 1939?

    "Ohlert" is a misspelling of the last name of Herschel Allen Oehlert, Jr. As the photo notes, Oehlert was lost on the same aircraft (PB4Y-1, BuNo 31992) and during the same mission on July 6, 1943 (not June 6th, as captioned in the album) that earned VPB-102 Lt.
