Successful on stage in vaudeville and comic operas, she was also successful in film. In 1914, she was in the first full-length film comedy and later won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1931."

A cropped version of this photo was used in The Sunday Oregonian (Portland, Ore.) December 24, 1916, with the caption:"Marie Dressler, the Inimitable, has been playing "Folly" at the Russian bazaar in New York and adding much to the merriment of the occasion. She also did a Russian dance one evening, but the Russians present said they had never seen- anything quite like it before."
