    hey NYPL! did you know that you can change the "date taken" there on the right of the photo page? ---> that way, this page becomes much, much more interesting: www.flickr.com/photos/nypl/archives/date-taken/

    That's a great idea, and it's already in the works for the Commons items that you see here. Since the JPGs that NYPL uploaded don't contain the header information which Flickr uses to automatically generate its date_taken field, the items default to the date they were uploaded. We did upload machine-tags with the original dates for most items. And we'll soon be updating the date_taken field with this information.
