Byron Bancroft "Ban" Johnson (January 5, 1864 – March 28, 1931), was an American executive in professional baseball who served as the founder and first president of the American League (AL). Johnson developed the AL, a descendant of the minor league Western League, into a "clean" alternative to the National League, which had become notorious for its rough-and-tumble atmosphere.[1] To encourage a more orderly environment, Johnson provided unwavering support to the new league's umpires,[2] which later included Hall of Famer Billy Evans.[3] With the help of league owners and managers such as Charles Comiskey, Charles Somers and Jimmy McAleer, Johnson lured top talent to the AL, which soon rivaled the more established National League.[4] Johnson ruled the AL with an iron fist until the 1920s, when a public dispute with Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis culminated in his forced resignation as league president.[2]

August "Garry" Herrmann (May 3, 1859 - April 25, 1931) was an American executive in Major League Baseball who served as president of the Cincinnati Reds of the National League from 1902 to 1927. As the president of baseball's National Commission from 1903 to 1920, he is often regarded as having filled the role of Baseball Commissioner before that position was officially established in 1920. Ensign J. B. Lynch, USNRF, was designated Naval Aviator #1519 in 1918. Released from active service in 1919 with Lt. (Junior Grade) rank.

Ordered to active duty in 1928 as LT, serving until 1933. Then continuous active duty service from 1935 until retirement in 1950, holding the rank of Captain, USNR. Continued on active duty however until 1953, with a final rank of Rear Admiral.

This is one of Galway’s great stories. It is said that in 1493, the mayor and magistrate of Galway James Lynch FitzStephen, hanged his own son from the window of his home. Lynch's son confessed to have murdered a man, a Spanish merchant sailor in the care of the family who had romanced his girlfriend. When no one could be found to carry out the execution, Judge Lynch hanged (or lynched as the practice became known around the world after this event) his son himself, ensuring that justice prevailed, before retiring into seclusion.
