Clare Library has a lot of info on the evictions including here: The 15th of July was Sunday-and before the weekend large contingents of troops and police were already setting up camp around Kilrush House. There were 70 Sherwood Foresters, 50 3rd Hussars, 50 Royal Berkshires (who were located at Cappagh Barrack), and 120 R.I.C. The whole arrangements were in the hands of Colonel Turner. Also present were a number of magistrates – Captain Welsh, Mr. Hodder, Mr. Roche, Mr. Shannon. The sub-sheriff was Captain Croker. The evictions took place in July, so this photo must be from afterwards if it's from August 1888.

If you look in Clare Library to the report of The Wreck of The Edmond 1850 off Kilkee. It also is indicative of the poor construction of the mud cabins as also noted in 1848. Could not get it to link for me.

My Grandmothers Family ( Liddane ) were evicted from their farm in Rehy, Co. Clare during the closing days of the 19th Century !!! The family scattered to the UK; the USA, and New Zealand !!! The Youngest, Dennis Liddane was killed fighting for the American Army in France; Oct. 10, 1918, about a month before the end of the war. He is buried in France at the Muese Argonne American Cemetery. I don't even think he was an American Citizen. So sad. The family never recovered.

The Vandeleur evictions took place between 18 and 30 July 1888. Mr. French, a photographer working for Lawrence, was present at the eviction of Matthias McGrath in Moyasta on 26 July and at some of the other evictions. Mulqueen (1988) and `The Vandeleur evictions, Kilrush 1888', by Ignatius Murphy in The Other Clare, Volume 4 (April 1980), 37-41.

The family scattered to The UK; The USA; and New Zealand. The youngest son, Dennis Liddane, was killed in France on Oct. 10, 1918 about a month before the end of World War 1. He was fighting for the American Army. I don't think he was even an American Citizen. Dennis is buried at the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery in France. So sad. The family never recovered from the death of the last born child.

A more recent article from the Clare Champion. The name Linnane should be Liddane. In Sept. 2011, I was able to get approval from the US Army for the Purple Heart and two WW 1 Victory Medals for Dennis Liddane. The US Army will not be sending the Medals to me in NY til the Summer of 2012. I will be taking the Medals back to County Clare in 2013. I intend to give these Medals to the people of County Clare.
