    And, for clarification, "Nordlandsbåt" is the name of this kind of ship, not a geographical location.

    Greeboe, you are very right. The "nordlandsbåt" is considered to be a direct descendant of the Viking long ships. It comes in many sizes and regional variants, but they all look very similar. I believe the type shown on this picture was used in the annual Lofoten cod-fishing campaign, way into the 20th century. A few local boat-builders still do variants of the "nordlandsbåt" today.

    We see the inner harbour of the fishing village of Svolvær. The bay on the left is called Pollen. Lofoten was and still is dependent on the large amount of cod in this area. The boat houses are called "rorbuer", and can house seasonal fishermen and their boats when they come in winter from elsewhere in Norway to participate in the fisheries. A good view of current Svolvær, but from the opposite angle, can be found here:
