Mr. Harvey Ladew (1887-1976) was apparently a "noted topiary artist": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Ladew
Harry Angstrom said:
That topiary guy is "Harvey S. Ladew" and this person is labeled " J. Harvey Ladew". Similar, maybe typo, but maybe not. J. Harvey Ladew is noted as a "wealthy leather merchant and yachtsman" in this NY Times article: query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9C04E...

pennylrichardsca & Harry Angstrom: Thank you for your comments! Based on the information provided by both of you, this seems to be J. Harvey Ladew. The topiary artist Ladew was a bachelor and only in his late 20s at the time of this image, while J. Harvey has two children in this photograph, and appears a bit older.

Could be the same J.H. Ladew who sold the steam yacht "Columbia" to the Navy, which they renamed the USS Wasp: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Wasp_(1898)
